1,4-Dioxane, often called dioxane because the other isomers of dioxane are rare, is a colorless
heterocyclic organic compound, which is a liquid at room temperature and atmospheric
pressure. It is classified as an ether. Dioxane is known to have 3 isomers namely i) 1,2 Dioxane (
o- Dioxane) ii) 1,3 Dioxane ( m – Dioxane) iii) 1, 4 Dioxane ( p- Dioxane).This colorless liquid is
mainly used as a stabilizer for the solvent trichloroethane. It is an occasionally used solvent for
a variety of practical applications as well as in the laboratory. It has a faint sweet odor similar to
that of diethyl ether.
1, 4 Dioxane is having Molecular formula C4 H8 O2. , Mol wt. 88.11g/mol. It is a solvent,
hygroscopic in nature , soluble in water and usual solvents . 1,4 dioxane is hazardous in case
of ingestion, of inhalation. Slightly hazardous in case of skin contact.1,4 dioxane is stable
compound. Hydroperoxide-free Dioxane rapidly forms hydroperoxide on contact with air.
Exposure to sunlight accelerates this formation. Decomposes to carbon monoxide. 1,4 dioxane
is flammable liquid.
1,4-Dioxane is also known as p-Dioxane, Diethylene dioxide.
We are the leading bulk manufacturer, exporter and supplier of 1,4 Dioxane.
Application
Dioxane is primarily used as a stabilizer for 1,1,1-trichloroethane for storage and transport in aluminium containers. Apart from its use as a stabilizer, dioxane is used in a variety of applications as a solvent, e.g. in inks and adhesives.
